Jared Dowell (40-5) got caught and pinned in the first round of his title match by top-ranked senior Trevor Swier of Lombard Montini (40-6).
“Fell a little bit short of what I wanted, but I’m not disappointed,′ Dowell said. “I made it to the state finals. I got to be a part of the Grand March. I left it all on the match ... and definitely shocked a lot of people.”
Dowell became Pekin’s first wrestler to reach a title match since Kelly Madden ended a two-year run of second-place finishes in 1998.
